Red Lahu Ecotreks
Experience an authentic Lahu village
TREKKING WITH THE LAHU:
The villages of Baan Pong Hi, Baan Phoo Moen and many others are home to the Lahu Daeng or Red Lahu ethnic minority of Northern Thailand. Located hear Fang, 3 hours north of Chiang Mai, these people still proudly retain much of their traditional culture and skills.
This is not a standard tourist trek where the Red Lahu people are seen as museum exhibits. You will interact with the Red Lahu in their daily life and experience how they live and how they use the jungle. They will introduce you to wild foods, herbs, medicine and traditional jungle cooking, using all natural materials.
For those who do not want to trek, but who would enjoy a stay in a village, there is a trekking lodge with western facilities, including hot water and flush toilets at Baan Pong Hi. For rates for staying at the trekking lodge please contact us.
"The Red Lahu trek was a very enjoyable adventure. We traversed mountains and passed through a bamboo forest on trails the local guides knew like the backs of their hands. As we progressed to our destination of a beautiful stream and waterfall, they picked wild foods to include in our lunch. We watched them make the cooking pots, cups, and utensils of bamboo with large machete type knives. These cultural ambassadors cooked a scrumptious lunch that we all shared. A better day could not be found!" Duffie - Flagstaff, Arizona
